INEC CLARIFIES STATUS OF WARD DELINEATION IN WARRI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed a media report suggesting that it has suspended action on the proposed delineation of Wards in Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West Federal Constituency, Delta State, as directed by the Supreme Court.

In a statement issued on Monday, 29th September 2025, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Sam Olumekun, mni, explained that the said publication misquoted an official of the Commission.

According to him, while no final decision has yet been taken on the matter, the proposed delineation has not been suspended by the Commission. He further confirmed that the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise is being conducted in all the local government areas within the constituency.

INEC appealed to all parties concerned to remain calm and maintain peace in the area as the process continues.

YOUTHS, WOMEN CONTINUE TO LEAD AS CVR ENTERS WEEK SIX WITH 6.2 MILLION ONLINE PRE-REGISTRATIONS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that a total of 6,232,673 Nigerians completed their online pre-registration during Week Six of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, held between 22nd and 28th September 2025.

The figures show strong public interest, with youths between the ages of 18 and 34 years accounting for 4,230,715 registrants (67.88%). Students also featured prominently with 1,565,824 registrants (25.12%), while females (52.15%) continued to outpace males (47.85%). A total of 137,865 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) were captured in the online pre-registration.

At the state level, Borno State recorded the highest online pre-registration with 682,805 (10.96%), followed by Osun with 599,363 (9.62%), and Lagos with 555,442 (8.91%). Other states with high turnout include Ogun (450,897), Kebbi (472,662), Kaduna (376,054), and Kano (290,690). Lower figures were recorded in Abia (5,225), Enugu (5,092), and Ondo (14,388). Registration in Anambra State remains suspended in compliance with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act, 2022, ahead of the governorship election scheduled for 8th November 2025.

Meanwhile, statistics from Week Five (22nd – 26th September 2025) showed that 1,004,132 registrations were completed both online and physically at designated centres nationwide. Of this figure, 537,743 were online registrations, while 466,389 were completed physically. Women accounted for 555,077 (55.28%), compared to 449,055 men (44.72%). Youths continued to dominate with 742,379 (73.93%), while students made up 354,406 (35.29%). A total of 13,987 PWDs (1.39%) also completed their registrations.

In the state-by-state breakdown, Osun State led in completed registrations with 107,012 (10.66%), followed by Lagos with 58,460 (5.82%), Borno with 56,828 (5.66%), and Kano with 54,145 (5.39%). Other top-performing states include Akwa Ibom (37,269), Kaduna (38,223), and Zamfara (35,264). States with relatively low numbers include Ebonyi (11,683), Ekiti (16,860), and Ondo (9,549).

The Commission, in its analysis, noted that the high participation of youths and women continues to be the defining feature of the CVR exercise. It also commended the growing turnout of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), describing it as a step toward consolidating an inclusive electoral process.

INEC urged all Nigerians who have pre-registered online to complete their biometric capture at the nearest registration centre before the close of the exercise. INEC reaffirmed its commitment to credibility, inclusivity, and transparency, assuring citizens that every valid registration will count towards strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
