2019 General Elections: INEC Hosts Computer Professionals of Nigeria (CPN)

The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Yakubu Mahmood, has hinted the Commission’s readiness to cooperate with the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria to deepen the deployment of technology in the 2019 general elections.

Professor Yakubu made this known during a courtesy call by the leadership of Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), led by its Registrar/Chief Executive, Mr. Allwell Achumba, at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja, today.
The INEC Chairman, while appreciating the role of the regulatory agency, said CPN can assist in sieving out quacks from the profession, thereby strengthening the computer professionals practice in the country.
Professor Yakubu used the occasion to assure Nigerians of INEC’s commitment to making the 2019 general elections better than the 2015 general elections.

He observed that the visit was timely considering the plans by the Commission to deploy technology in the collation and transmission of election results.
The Chairman urged the Professional body to see themselves as partners in progress and should not hesitate to advise the Commission in terms of ICT deployment in its processes.
Earlier in his remarks, the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, Mr. Allwell Achumba said the purpose of their visit was to intimate the Commission about the activities of the regulatory body and to explore areas of cooperation in the deployment of ICT in elections in order to move the country forward.
