The fundamental challenge of any Election Management Body (EMB) is to be able to offer free, fair and credible elections. The electoral process includes the selection of candidates, the registration of voters and the actual voting process; and the procedures leading to these three activities must be said to be credible.
Communique Issued at the End of the Consultative Meeting Between Media Executives and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the Need to Expand Voter Access to Polling Units in Nigeria. The meeting was attended by several media executives including the President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists.
Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), met today 9th February 2021 with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as part of the Commission's National engagement and consultations with stakeholders on the need to expand voter access to polling units in Nigeria.
Polling Units are central to the electoral process and therefore democracy at large. Voter access to Polling Units is at the very heart of electoral democracy because Polling Units are the basis on which citizens exercise their fundamental rights to vote and to make electoral choices freely.
